Year 3

AUTUMN TERM

Welcome to Year 3!

A very big welcome to our Year 3 class page. My name is Mrs. Heightley and I am the Year 3 class teacher. I have been the Year 3 teacher for quite a number of years now, and I must say, it is the best year group! Year 3 children are now at the beginning of their Key Stage 2 life. I am honoured to be teaching your child at this point of their education and I can't wait to watch them grow and learn during the year.

Miss Brown will support Year 3 across the week and Mr. Swift will support Year 3 every Thursday. Both are looking forward to supporting the class at the start of their Key Stage 2 journey.

Please find below Year 3's Autumn term Newsletter and the PowerPoint used during the 'Meet the Teacher' event, both of which contain information relevant to the whole school and information specific to Year 3.
Our Autumn term topic is The Stone Age.
We will be finding out about life in our country and across the world during this period of time.
Our Autumn term Science topic is Rocks and Soils.

We will be learning about:
  • the three types of rocks (sedimentary, igneous and metamorphic) and how they are formed
  • Mary Anning and her fossil finding adventures
  • what fossils are, how they are made and what type of rock you will find them in
  • coastal and soil erosion

P.E.
Our P.E. lessons are on a Thursday and a Friday.
Please bring your P.E. kits into school on a Monday and leave them in school all week just in case our P.E. lesson has to change to a different day because of the weather / other things happening in school etc.

SPRING TERM

Our Spring Term topic is 'The World Around Us'.
We have two Science topics in the Spring Term.

Spring 1: Forces and Magnets.

Spring 2: Plants
