Year 1

My name is Miss Brown and I am the Year 1 teacher. 
 
Mrs Gamsby is our Teaching Assistant. 
 
 
In year 1, the children continue to have access to Continous Provision where they can lead their own learning. 
The areas we have in our classroom are:
- blocks and small world
- construction 
- creative area
- maths area
- reading area 
 
This allows children to practice and apply the skills and knowledge they have been learning in a variety of contexts. They are always keen to share their learning with us and are extremely proud when they have used their Diamond Power.
Learning Gems
 
We encourage the use of our Learning Gems at King Street. The children in Year 1 all show a good understanding of these.

Our Learning - Spring Term

PE
◦Our PE lessons will usually take place on Tuesdays and Wednesdays; please send PE kits in to school with your child on a Monday, and these will be sent home on Friday to be washed.
 
PE kit should consist of:
  • shorts/tracksuit bottoms,
  • trainers and a T-shirt (colour depends on house team) 
  • sweatshirt for the outdoors. 
Please ensure that your child’s name is written on the labels.
Homework and Reading
 
Homework is set through a combination of online platforms and your child’s Home Learning book.
◦This will be set on a Monday to be completed by Friday.
 
Children are expected to have their reading book and reading record in school every day.
Children are expected to read at home with an adult at least 3 times a week. We encourage the children to read for pleasure, which is why we also let the children choose their own 'Reading for pleasure book' from our classroom book basket to take home each week.
 
Please sign your child's reading record and use the comments section if you have any messages or concerns. 
Phonics Screening Check
